How do you find the right recruitment agency for your growing business? There are hundreds of recruiting agencies out there — here's a checklist to help you make the right choice.
1. Determine Your Company's Needs
Make sure you're reaching out to an agency that specializes in the type of work you're hiring for. Some agencies recruit broadly within an industry; others focus on specialized roles. List all the roles you're recruiting for and find an agency with knowledge across all of them.
2. Determine Your Goals & Timeline
A company looking to add three UX designers has very different needs than one seeking a single marketing coordinator. Write down how soon you want each role filled and how much time you can dedicate to the hiring process. Consider the interview format — remote or in-person — and factor in the hiring market conditions.
3. Prepare Your Job Description
A job description isn't just an informational document — it's how you sell your role to candidates. Be specific, format it for scannability, and put the most important details front and center. Save the nitty-gritty for your recruiter, who needs all the detail to find the perfect candidate.
4. Determine Your Budget and Compare Agencies
Many recruiting agencies charge a placement fee based on the hired candidate's starting salary (e.g., 25% of a $100k salary = $25k fee). Some require an upfront search fee; others don't. Schedule consultations with a few agencies to understand pricing, policies, and process — then make an informed choice.
